6 Steps to Arrive at the Airport on Time

1. Pack Like a Pro

Try to have your bags packed well in advance of your flight and placed by the exit door to avoid tracking them down.

It’s best to have a list of travel essentials ready as a checklist so nothing gets left out. Pack everything you NEED, not everything you might possibly want.

It’s also a great idea to purchase a luggage scale to ensure you are under the weight limit imposed by most airlines.

2.  Check-in Online

Almost every airline flying today offers online check-in. Most allow you to print your boarding pass so you can bypass all the lines, ticket counters and kiosks, and go directly to your gate. (In many cases, you can determine your departure gate online as well.)

3.  Arrive Early

For domestic flights, the guidelines say to arrive 90 minutes prior to your flight. That gives you plenty of time to clear security, find your gate and grab a Nathan’s hot dog.

4.  Plan Your Airport Route

Many times, your departure gate is included with your boarding information. Check out the airport map to determine how you will get from your entry door to your departure gate.
